St Lucia, Sandals Resort
Author: Fred
Just back from St. Lucia. Good trip. Diving was excellent. We stayed at Sandals St. Lucia (La Toc). Beautiful island. Easily the prettiest island we have seen. The resort was exquisite. Since we had stayed at Sandals before, they upgraded us to a suite from our oceanfront room. Thought they did us a favor. It was quiet and very nice, had our own stocked bar, etc. The drawback was it was a walk (lots of stairs) from our room to anywhere else, restaurants, dive shop, etc. Kinda tough on the wife with her spike heels.
Now to diving. Got to skip the pool check out and just had to do the newbie dive on Sunday afternoon. Very few divers on the resort, so the we did a two-tank dive every morning. Dives were guided but they weren't very restrictive, except on the idiots (and there were a couple). Deepest dive was 101 feet for 25 minutes. Most were between 45 and 75 feet. Plenty of life and some of the most colorful coral I've ever seen. We did two wreck dives and the rest were reefs. We dove the Coral Gardens right between the Pitons. Absolutely wonderful coral formations. Lots of eels. We did the swimthru and cave at Petite Trou. Anse Cochon (north side) is a macro photographer's paradise. Looks like mounds of broken staghorn coral. Thousands of interesting little creatures to stalk. On the south side of Anse Cochon, saw the biggest pufferfish I've ever seen, live or otherwise. It was about three feet long and tucked under an overhang. I have a couple of good shots of it.
I'm starting to scan the photos now and will update my web page with them in a few days. I'll let you know. I'll also have some more that won't be on the page if anyone is interested.
I'll have more details if anyone wants to hear about them.
