Key Largo (2002)

Amy Slate's Amoray Diver Resort, Key Largo. Recently we stayed at Amy Slate's resort for the 3rd year in a row. On this trip we encountered some problems and attempted to resolve them. Everyone we talked to said they could not help us. Amy was in the Keys at a meeting and Debbie the office manager, well she was never in. We left word that we would like to speak to either of them but they never contacted us. We were there for 4 days.
1. A family also staying with us a the resort called 3 months ahead to gather information regarding certifying our children. He was informed that $425 would take care of everything, all we would need to do is hold the spots with a down payment which he did on his credit card. Upon arriving we discovered that the materials should have been mailed to us so that our children would have read the book and been prepared for the classroom and pool work. Instead our children spent all their free time studying until 11 pm at night to pass the book portion of the class. Had both of them not been excellent students in gifted programs they may not have been able to hand this intense studying. If they didn't pass the book test they would not have been certified and we would have been out our money because your resort never sent the materials Fortunately this was not the case, they just didn't get to enjoy all of their vacation.
2. I also called the resort to verify the information or friend had gathered regarding the cost of the course and material and was told the same thing he was told. When we received our materials we discover the boxed package had already been opened and resealed with another piece of tape. The package said dive log included. We were informed the resort made a decision to remove the log books and sell them back to us. This decision was made by the accountant Debbie. This was never relayed to us when we called. Had we known this was the practice we would have chosen another facility to certify our children. We feel this is false advertising, theft, and poor business.
3. I went to the office and spoke to Jeannie that I was expecting a fax and would need to fax it back. I inquired about the cost. She said that she could not remember but it wouldn't be much. To my surprise it is $3 for the first page and $1 for each page after for a total of $10 just to get a fax of 8 pages. Worst of all the fax was not legible. I called to tell the front of this and that I would not agree to pay for this fax. Jeannie dismissed me with a snort over the phone before placing me on hold. She then told me to bring it to the front. When I arrived she snatched the papers from me without even looking up and put them aside. I went to a local office who was happy to receive and send my faxes for free.
4. Jeannie was checking me out on our final day. During the process she answered the phone and relayed to the caller that she was pulling her hair out. Only I and the other family with us were in the shop.
5. Outside of the above issue, I have say I have never been able to understand why, if a room is designed to sleep six would they charge $10 more for each person over 2 people.
6. We were 6 people in a room designed to sleep six but we could only get 4 towels. Each day we had to ask for more.
7. They never cleaned the rooms. The staff made the bed with out changing the sheet for the entire 4 days and replaced the towels. The bathrooms were NEVER cleaned.
8. The ONLY good part of the trip was David the instructor. The children liked him and he was a great instructor. We will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone else. There are 10 hotel/resorts within one mile of this location. You would be better to stay at any of the other hotel/resorts.
