Florida, Boynton Beach

Friday morning Dborn and I dive with Logger Head (Boynton Beach- Just south of West Palm Beach Fl) two dives. Friday night we do two night dives with Logger head. Both times Craig is our host. First trip it is only Dborn and myself on the 34 foot boat. The night dive a couple of guys join us from Ocala and Tampa respectively. Their focus was catching bugs (they caught two). Both dives are about 50-65 feet with viz about 50-60 feet. The day and night dives were drift dives. The reef ( Boynton Ledge and Briney Breeze) was excellent, abundance of marine life (squid, eels, shark, parrot, lobsters, squirrel, etc.). I would highly recommend Logger Head, the folks are great and they did not rush us. It is absolutely amazing how much the host can change the atmosphere of the trip. We had a three quarter moon and it was absolutely adorable. Such a nice touch to the dive. You could turn your light off and see the eyes of the small critters glowing with the illumination from he moon light. I inadvertently let go of the dive flag 29 minutes in to the dive and mutually decided to abort the dive as the captain would have no idea where were located for pick up . There was about a 10-15 knot current heading north and so he would be looking for us a the wrong spot. My mistake., Craig was great. Extremely enthusiastic, not just doing his job like some of them are at other facilities. I will dive with them in a heart beat and would highly recommend them for anyone in the future (tel: 561-566-8686). I used my new Fire Fly strobe light on my tank and ScubaPro Power Light (20 Watts) as primary illumination. The rechargeable battery lasts for both trips. A brighter light sure makes a night dive (and cavern/cave dives) more enjoyable as you can see father and has a wide beam dispersion.
Saturday SamyG, Dborn, Carlos and myself go with Quiescence at 1:30 pm. Their three boats have a capacity for 6 people. Went to the elbow and Spike's Ledge. Dborn and I had a bottom time of 73 minutes at 25 feet and had a great time the first dive. Reef looks great. Normal marine life of Barracudas, rays, sharks, etc. We even came across a clear plastic bag with white powder in is a under a reef. My first response was it was cocaine. The bag was tagged with a plastic tie wrap and an aluminum tag with embossed marking. It was some cemetery outfit out of Dade county and had some serial or filing number. So I guess it was the remains of some person or animal. The viz was 30-40 feet and water temp about 82 deg F. The second dive (a mere 10 minutes surface interval) the guide wants to do a drift dive with all six of us simultaneously, so we comply. It turns out to be a marathon; its as if he is in a sprint to cover as much mileage in one hour. Thus, missing much of the marine activity due to his hasty actions. The second dive I had 1300 psi left and had to abort the dive as the guide said 500 psi or 60 minutes which ever comes first. He directs both my buddy and myself to surface after 60 minutes. Perhaps that is standard business practice, but I still feel they could let use consume all our air to 500 psi. I would not recommend Quiescence and in the future would will not use them. They are average or below and did not like their rushing attitude. What's another 15 minutes? Their next trip out was an hour and a half after we were docked for their night dive at 6:30 pm. They werent spiteful or mean. With so much competition in the Keys I will try other facilities. If I was one of the diving outfits down there, I would do my best to offer something more appealing to the diver than the competition. This would encourage the guest to become repeated users and by word of mouth recommend my outfit to others.
Overall all the six dives were excellent and had a fantastic time.
Thanks
