Edmonds Oil Dock
Author: Scott Roberts
We swam for a bit on the surface. Our goal was to go out to about 40 ft from the T in the dock and descend. We were sick of the surface swim, and the current was slightly against us, so we descended a bit early. Cherie noticed that her dry suit was leaking a tad. We decided to try to dive. I told her that she should let me know if she wanted to cancel the dive at any time. We went down to about 15' and started our swim out to the dock. The visibility was bad (7'), there were a lot of flounder, crab, perch, etc. We approached a smooth, sandy drop off and decended to about 35'. It supposedly goes down to about 70'. The visibility was much better, and felt like it was only going to get better with depth. The current was running slowly in shore and pushing us to the right, but it wasn't bad at all. I think we timed slack perfectly. We used the Seattle tables, and entered the water just before high slack. At 35' there were very pretty anemones covering the pilings, there were also huge starfish. The dive was just getting good. At that point, Cherie's drysuit was leaking even worse. I'm sure the depth caused it to become wetter and colder. We decided to call it a dive, and swam back to shore underwater. She was absolutely drenched when we got out. I'd like to do that dive again some day. It looked interesting. I like swimming in the pilings. Be sure to set your compass. You want to stay in the pilings on this dive. That's where the cool stuff is.
