North Three Tree Point (N47 27.146' W122 22.714')
Author: by Scott Roberts
Location: Burien, WA
Directions: N/A
Difficulty: Easy
Entry: The entry is very easy. There are some natural steps that lead you down to an easy beach entry. Walk north to the flag pole. Enter there, and work your way back South to the parking area.
Description:
I've done both a day and a night dive here. The sign at the entrance to the beach
access says that it's illegal to dive here at night, but we decided to risk it and go
anyway. I don't think the community minds as long as you are quiet and respectful of
the residents who live on the beach. It seems to be a common occurrence, but don't
let that lead you to a false sense of security.
There is a gradual slope which goes down to about 20' in depth, and then the slope drops off at a steeper angle allowing you to get deep fairly quickly. There are artificial reef structures scattered at depths between 40-80'. Walk north to the flag pole enter there. Go down to the desired depth and work your way back South toward the parking lot. This way you don't have to hike back down the beach to get to your car.
Expect to see the usual Puget sound marine life. There are very large octopus around. If you get lucky, they will be out hunting during your night dive. This is a very good dive for the Seattle area. Very easy, and quite a bit to see.
Comments:
Sometimes it gets very crowded here and cars will park just about anywhere they
can squeeze in, blocking access to driveways. Please be careful not to
block driveways if you come down to park and dive. Otherwise.. have a great dive
and be careful.
